Photographic safari in the Vosges with a naturalist: the high-end nature experience

Majestic deer, capercaillie, elusive lynx: exceptional photographic safari in the Vosges.

The Vosges: the last wild sanctuary in Eastern France

Little known in favor of the Alps and the Pyrenees, the Vosges nevertheless shelter one of the richest fauna in mainland France. In the primary forests of Hohneck, Tanet and Ventron, rare species still exist: the capercaillie (grouse), the boreal lynx, the Vosges chamois and herds of deer of up to 200 individuals.

Adopt a Conciergerie has designed an exceptional photographic safari in partnership with an approved naturalist from the Ballons des Vosges Regional Natural Park. An immersive experience, far from the marked trails.

The safari program: 2 days of total immersion

Day 1 — The bellowing of the deer (September-October)

Departure 4:30 a.m., transfer by silent 4x4 to the observation point. Installation in a professional lookout (heated, equipped with ergonomic seats and Swarovski telescopes). The naturalist identifies the best positions based on the wind and the habits of the herds. At sunrise, the show begins: the red deer begin their bellowing — a primordial sound that resonates in the morning mist of the Vosges.

Hot lunch served in the lookout (gourmet thermos prepared by a local caterer). Afternoon: guided hike on the ridges, observation of chamois, introduction to wildlife photography with a professional photographer. Dinner in a private mountain refuge, cooking over a wood fire.

Day 2 — Primary forest and lynx tracks

Exploration of the primary forest of Grand Ventron

, one of the last stands of virgin fir and spruce trees in France. The naturalist decodes the ecosystem: lynx tracks, marten prints, black woodpecker nests. Possibility of observing herds of deer on the edge and red squirrels at altitude.

Lunch at the lodge — an old forest refuge completely renovated into charming accommodation (tiled stove, spring water shower, king size bed). Return at the end of the afternoon, transfer to the hotel or residence.

FAQ: Photographic safari in the Vosges

When is the best time to observe deer?

The deer bellowing takes place from mid-September to mid-October. This is the most spectacular moment. We recommend booking as early as July — places are limited to 4 participants per outing to minimize disturbance to wildlife.

Is the safari suitable for children?

Yes, from 10 years. The naturalist adapts the rhythm and the explanations. Children love tracking (footprints, droppings, feathers) and photography. We provide binoculars suitable for young people.

What happens in bad weather?

The safari is maintained under the pllight rain (fauna is more active in overcast weather). In the event of extreme conditions (thunderstorm, storm), we offer a free postponement or an alternative: visit to the Lynx Reintroduction Center, nature photo development workshop.

How much does the safari cost?

From €1,800 for 2 people (2 days / 1 night). Included: private naturalist, equipment, meals, transfers, lodge accommodation. Professional photographer supplement: €600. Adopt a Concierge manages the entire organization.

Can we observe the boreal lynx?

The lynx is extremely secretive — observing it directly is rare (less than 5% probability). On the other hand, our naturalist systematically identifies its traces, scratches and remains of prey. For enthusiasts, we offer night photo hides with camera traps.

Is the safari environmentally friendly?

Absolutely. We follow the Regional Natural Park protocols: minimum distances, prohibited areas respected, limited number of participants. No interaction with wildlife. Our naturalist is approved by the PNR and checks the ecological conditions before each outing.

Can we combine the safari with a wellness stay?

Yes. We offer a “Nature & Well-being” package: 2 days of safari followed by a spa day in one of the thermal establishments in the Vosges (Bains de la Bresse, Source de la Roche). Massage in the forest possible on request.

Does Adopt a Concierge organize other nature experiences?

Yes: hot air balloon flight over the vineyards, gastro hike on the Vosges ridges, truffle outing in the Alsatian forest, private kayaking on the Vosges lakes. Each experience is tailor-made, with the same level of requirements.
