UHNWI · Grand Est · Family Office · Private Concierge · 2026 Analysis
21,528 UHNWIs in France. +21% in five years. And a structural shift in how Grand Est's wealthiest manage daily life.
There exists a blind spot in French wealth analysis. Paris captures attention. The Côte d'Azur captivates imagination. But Grand Est — the arc stretching from Strasbourg to Metz, Colmar to Reims — harbours industrial fortunes of remarkable density. Families who built empires in waterproofing, electrical equipment, commercial real estate, logistics, and champagne. Portfolios measured in hundreds of millions, sometimes billions. And who increasingly entrust the management of their daily lives to private concierge houses.
What the data reveals
The Knight Frank Wealth Report 2026 identifies 21,528 UHNWIs in France — individuals with net worth exceeding $30 million. That's a 21% increase from 2021: 3,781 new ultra-wealthy in five years. Europe-wide, growth reached 26%, bringing the total to 183,953.
The Capgemini World Wealth Report 2025 adds nuance. In 2024, Europe lost 2.1% of its HNWIs. France alone saw 21,000 millionaires disappear. But Europe's UHNWI population grew by 3.5%. Wealth is concentrating. Average portfolios retreat; the largest fortunes accelerate.
Grand Est's fortune landscape
The Challenges ranking reveals a striking portrait: the Bindschedler family (Soprema, waterproofing) at over €3 billion; the de Wendel family at over €2 billion; the Ruggieri family (real estate, healthcare) at €1.2 billion. Followed by Oussadon-Benarroch (commercial real estate, €725M), Steyert (Socomec, €650M), Eimer (Biogroup, €600M), Lazard (corporate real estate, €500M).
These fortunes share three characteristics: industrial (not financial), familial (not individual), and local (territory-anchored). This explains why the Paris concierge model doesn't automatically work in Strasbourg.
