There are, in the villages between Strasbourg and Colmar, workshops that nobody really looks for. Not because they are unworthy of being found — but because they do not bother to advertise. A discreet sign, sometimes nothing at all. Knowing they exist is a matter of network. Entering is a matter of trust.
It is in that space — between the visible and the invisible — that Adopte une Conciergerie operates. Not to organise guided tours. To create access that exists in no tourist catalogue.
Why Alsatian artisan craftsmanship is one of the world's most underestimated experience territories
Alsace is known for its wine, its half-timbered architecture, its Christmas markets. What is said less often is that the region is home to one of the densest concentrations of exceptional artisan expertise in Europe. Luthiers whose instruments travel to orchestras in Vienna and Chicago. Glassblowers working with techniques dating to the 17th century. Cabinetmakers whose pieces grace private residences from Geneva to Tokyo. Ceramicists in the Vosges whose kilns still fire according to rhythms the seasons dictate.
These craftspeople are not seeking public fame. They seek the recognition of those who truly know how to look. And for UHNWIs in search of irreplicable experiences — those for whom "rare" does not mean "expensive" but "otherwise unobtainable" — an afternoon in one of these workshops is worth infinitely more than a night in any palace.
What the European Craftsmanship Days revealed
From 7 to 12 April 2026, for the 19th edition of the European Craftsmanship Days under the theme "Hearts at Work", more than 50 craftspeople opened their doors across Alsace. For the general public, this is a window onto normally closed universes. For our clients, it is a map: a geography of the workshops that deserve to be revisited, privatised, transformed into bespoke experiences.
Because a public open workshop, however beautiful, cannot offer what privatisation makes possible. The difference between following a group of twenty people watching a master glassblower at work, and sitting alone opposite him for three hours, dining afterwards in his studio with the day's pieces still on the table, and leaving with a creation that did not exist before that day: this is not a difference of degree. It is a difference of nature.
How we build a privatised artisan experience
Privatising an artisan's studio cannot be decreed. It is negotiated with care, respecting the rhythm and creative logic of the craftsperson. Some never accept. Others — those with whom we have worked for years — have understood that these private encounters are for them a form of rare recognition.
Concretely, a privatised artisan experience with Adopte une Conciergerie includes: selecting a craftsperson whose expertise matches the client's profile and sensibilities, negotiating the conditions of the meeting (duration, format, level of interaction), creating a programme around the visit — transfers from Strasbourg or Colmar, associated meal, possible direct commission of a piece — and the discreet presence of a coordinator so that nothing ever depends on the unforeseen.
Artisan craftsmanship as the ultimate gift for a UHNWI client
What do you give someone who has everything? The question comes up regularly in our event concierge and premium client relations missions. The answer, increasingly, is not an object — it is an experience that produces a unique object. A ceramic piece created in the client's presence during a private session with a master Alsatian ceramicist. A hand-forged table knife with the name engraved, watched coming into being in the cutler's workshop. A musical instrument for which the client chose the wood and heard the first string sound.
These objects are not worth their market price. They are worth the story they tell — and that story belongs only to whoever was there.
How do I book a private artisan workshop visit in Alsace?
Through Adopte une Conciergerie, we organise private visits to artisan craft workshops across Alsace and Grand-Est. It begins with a confidential conversation to define your preferences (type of expertise, duration, format, wish to commission a piece). We then present a selection of craftspeople matching your profile and manage all coordination.
Can a workshop be privatised for a corporate event or a premium client gift?
Absolutely. This is one of our most frequent uses. A privatised workshop for an evening of 8 to 15 people — executives, VIP clients, partners — is a corporate event that no one will leave feeling they have "seen it before". We manage invitations, the programme, associated catering and any personalised commissions.
What types of craftspeople are accessible through Adopte une Conciergerie in Alsace?
Our network includes glassblowers (Meisenthal tradition), ceramicists, luthiers, cabinetmakers, stone cutters, haute couture embroiderers, Grand Cru winemakers and artisan cheesemakers. All accept private encounters on terms that respect their rhythm and creative logic. These are not tourist providers — they are exceptional craftspeople who have chosen to share their universe selectively.
Is it possible to commission a unique piece during the private visit?
Yes — and it is often the most memorable part of the encounter. Most craftspeople in our network accept direct commissions during private visits: a ceramic piece, a hand-forged knife, a blown glass object, an embroidery. We coordinate the commission, production tracking and delivery to any European residence.
How far in advance should a privatised artisan experience be booked?
For a simple visit (2 to 4 hours), two to three weeks is generally sufficient. For a complete experience with associated programme (lunch, transfers, commissioned piece), allow 3 to 6 weeks. For corporate events or special occasions requiring a multi-day programme, we recommend 2 months' lead time.
Are these experiences available year-round, not just during the Craftsmanship Days?
Yes. The European Craftsmanship Days (early April each year) are a fine opportunity to discover the territory, but our privatised experiences are organised 12 months a year. Some seasons are particularly rich — the Alsace harvest (September-October) allows combination of an artisan session with a wine estate experience at the same time.
Can Adopte une Conciergerie organise a complete stay around Alsatian craftsmanship?
Yes. We design stays of 2 to 5 days entirely dedicated to Grand-Est artisan crafts: accommodation in a privatised character property, a programme of visits to 3 to 5 selected craftspeople, dinners at gastronomic addresses in the region, and possible visits to Grand Cru wine estates. Every stay is unique and built specifically for the client.
Are these experiences confidential? Do the craftspeople know the visitor's identity?
Confidentiality is at the core of how we operate. The craftspeople know they are receiving a client from our network — they only have the information needed to prepare the encounter. The visitor's identity is shared only if the client wishes it, and always under prior agreement. Several of our clients are public figures for whom discretion is absolutely non-negotiable.
Alsace's finest luxury is not found in boutiques. It is found in the workshops of those who spend their lives perfecting a gesture. And it waits for those who know how to knock on the right door.
